Would you eat eggs if you kept chickens yourself?

This is a sincere question I’ve got about veganism and animal welfare. It seems to me if you just have chickens in your back yard they will lay eggs and if you treat them right/protect them from predators and give them a happy life you aren’t necessarily doing anything wrong since they just “do that” (lay eggs)

Am I mistaken or would you say eating their eggs is unethical?
