My best friend decided to end his life on a whim.

I just found out this morning that one of my best friends had hung himself. I had spoken to him less than 2 days earlier, and would have never guessed he was ready to leave. He had talked about being depressed before, and suffered from CTEs and alcoholism, but he showed no signs when we spoke.

His oldest son had called me to inform me of his passing. He didn't have many details besides someone called the police to do a wellness check, and they had found his body. It wasn't till later that I received the even more sickening details.

Supposedly he and his girlfriend had a fight, and she decided to leave for the night. His dog was outside, and at some point he had decided life wasn't worth it anymore. He went to the basement, closed the door behind him, and hung himself towards the bottom of the stairs. The neighbor noticed his dog in the morning outside, barking to be let in, and called the cops to do a wellness check.

The cops couldn't get into the house, so they decided to call his ex-wife. His 17 year old daughter was in the car with her and said she would drive down to let them in. She did this because her parents fought a lot, and she figured he was passed-out drunk and didn't want them to get into another argument.

The daughter arrived at his house and let the cops in. they searched the first floor and couldn't find him. That's when the daughter decided to check the basement and found her father. From what his ex-wife told me, she just screamed. She couldn't speak. The cops had to call the ex-wife back to come pick up her daughter.

I'm still in disbelief of what has happened, and I'm angry at him. He'll never know or understand the pain he has caused his children. I've dealt with suicide first-hand before, and it took me years to feel somewhat normal. But I can't begin to imagine what his daughter is going through. It makes me sick to think about, especially as a parent myself.

Anyways, I just wanted to post this, because I didn't know what else to do. I know I should seek therapy, and plan to do so. Thanks for listening!
