Editing a SMUFL font - how hard is it?

Is this possible - for a non-programmer. I just made a post about the staccato dots being too small. Could I take, say, the dot from the dotted note, and replace the staccato with that - or a glyph from another smufl font?

I know nothing about making or editing a font at this point, but I’m willing to learn if it’s just software (free) I could use to do it.
