Have I overcomplicated this AI coding workflow?

I’ve been building a side project for myself that started as a way to keep project context organized while working with AI coding tools.
The original problem was simple: I got tired of constantly re-explaining projects to AI and losing track of decisions, priorities, constraints, and what I was supposed to be working on next.
Over time it evolved into something much bigger than I originally intended.
The workflow now looks something like:
Store project goals, decisions, constraints, and current focus
Break projects into checkpoints
Generate structured missions for Claude Code
Send those missions directly to a local process that can execute them through Claude Code
Claude works on the checkpoint inside the project workspace
Returns a structured execution report
Review what changed, what still needs tested, risks, and suggested project memories
Approve the work and move to the next checkpoint
The goal is to reduce the amount of project management, copy/pasting, and context loss that happens when working on larger projects with AI.
Part of me thinks this becomes much more valuable as AI coding agents get better and can work for longer stretches without supervision.
The other part of me wonders if I’ve accidentally built a bunch of process around something that developers already solve with Claude Code, GitHub, notes, and good habits.
I recently got the point where I can click a checkpoint, Claude Code picks it up, works on it, sends back a report, and I review the result before deciding what happens next. Technically it works, but I’m trying to figure out whether it’s actually useful.
A few questions:
Does this sound useful or overly complicated?
Is this solving a problem you actually have?
Would this be more valuable to newer developers or experienced developers?
Does the “mission → execution → review → next mission” workflow sound appealing?
At what point does workflow become bureaucracy?
Is there something already out there that does this well?

Yes this was written by AI. I didn’t trust my writing to structure the flow well enough.
