Ares in the first God of War is pretty easy
I’ve been replaying the God of War games lately while watching some content about the series, and almost everyone seems to agree that Ares is one of the hardest bosses, if not the hardest, in the entire saga. But honestly, I think I completely disagree.
It’s true that 20 years have passed, that we’re more used to the mechanics now, and that some of us have replayed the game several times, though I personally hadn’t done so in years. Even so, considering the context of its time, the way to beat him is pretty straightforward. In the first phase, you just blast him with Army of Hades and block everything except when he raises the hammer; his health drops really fast. To beat the infamous clones, all you really need is some magic, good timing, God Fury, and then healing the family to recharge God Fury so you can keep casting magic. That part is over in the blink of an eye, literally. As for the third phase, if I remember correctly, he only has three attacks, and they’re pretty easy to dodge. It’s a bit annoying because of the damage, but you can beat him quickly with two or three combos as long as you dodge the rest.
This can work as a sort of guide for anyone interested, but what I wanted to say is that the game isn’t as hard as it seems, without abusing any glitches, of course, just using the tools the game gives you.
It’s time to dismantle the myth that Ares is the hardest boss of them all. After replaying these games recently, he doesn’t even make my top 5 anymore.
