Looking for book about the grand tour and the Parthenopean Republic

Looking to write a novel set during the Parthenopean Republic- the short-lived Jacobin government supported by the french in Naples. I'd also love a book about the grand tour and the grand tourist experience. In the story, a dim witted aristocrat who is doing the grand tour, ignores warnings and blunders into the middle of the revolution. I am looking for history book ONLY. I mention this because I tried this and people told me to read the talented mr ripley which is a fine book but contains none of the above. I'm a fairly patient reader so don't mind if it is older and/or a bit dry. TYIA
