Paying people to perform Istikhara

Married Life

hi everyone,

i married my spouse 2 years ago. Prior to getting married my parents wanted to perform Istikhara to determine if the marriage with my spouse is going to work out. they asked an imam back home to perform the Istikhara and a few days later they received the result that said the marriage will not work out. the imam was paid for his service as “donation”

We performed Istikhara and didn’t experience anything ourselves. its been 2 years and my parents still use this against me and my spouse. they say that marriage will not work out according to the Istikhara.

my spouse and I have been through a lot in our marriage and there’s been a lot of ups and downs for sure. We work hard to make our marriage work but this specific issue with our parents has put a lot of stress and doubt on our relationship. Family members treat the marriage like it’s temporary since they have this belief it won’t work out.

What my parents did doesn’t align with what I have learned and known about Istikhara. we don’t know the individual who performed the salah and have never met them. How can they have a sense of our future? I would appreciate some insight into this. I couldn’t find anything on a situation like this on the internet.

TLDR: Parents basically paid an imam across the world to perform Istikhara prayer to determine if my marriage with my spouse will work out. Istikhara apparently said marriage won’t work out. Parents won’t move on from this, it’s been 2 hours since we got married. Imam doesn’t know us or met us.
