Floral (please be honest and constructive :)!!)
Thread without end
a spool awaiting demise
Floral embroidery
sewn into foreign fabrics
an heirloom drifting between languages
they are among copies
reproductions of memory
of what once was
and what I ought to wish –
farewell
the blooms mean less and more,
ornaments of kin
I wish to preserve them,
is it care,
or mimicry
pattern borrowed,
flower sold
I’m an artist who’s accompanying this with an animation using traditional and commercial embroidery patterns. This poem is about nostalgia, inheritance and displacement. I have a Filipino-Australian background. I struggle with written work. Being more confident in academic writing, I tend to write things very literally. I would greatly love any constructive feedback concerning the structure, vocabulary, concept, etc. Thanks!
