Denial
What are you saying?
The light is draining?
I’ll tear down the curtain,
Lift up your burden.
I’ll make the sun shine,
Make it divine.
The sorrowful morrow
Can’t always follow.

Anger
What have you done?
Ruined my footing—
And you aren’t looking.
Scorched the blood in me—
Is this pain your fee?
Did you know
You’d extinguish me so slow?
I wish to see your face so red
From my wounds that bled,
So you know how the fire
That was once desire
Turns drier
and drier.
Now there is bonfire,
And wire,
And briar—
There is a whole pyre.

Bargaining
Why don’t you come back?
Touch my hair,
Brush your hand
Behind my neck.
If it did shine back then,
Can’t we get out of this black,
Gaping hole that you tore?
Can’t it be the sign
That there is a line
Where you can still be mine?

Depression
Do you even remember—
Back in November—
We met so accidentally,
Never thought of you sensually.
The matter of laughter
Was all I was after.
So shiny were the days
Where you bestowed your gaze
On me so momentarily—
Instant familiarity.
I wish I was more careful,
So now my December
Wouldn’t have been filled
With memories of that November.

Acceptance
Why do you come back?
You already left.
I know I reached out
Just to find out—
Was there a chance
For us ever again?
I know now
That I wouldn’t allow
You to wrap around my spine
Like a poisonous vine.
I hoped you changed,
That something rearranged—
That was a fool’s dream.
Anyone can be redeemed,
But only when they try
To fly by their own might.
You never saw me truly,
I never knew that fully.
There can never be us—
Let the dust remain at last.
