This figure refers to Erebus, one of the earliest beings in Greek mythology who personifies deep darkness and shadow. Emerging alongside Nyx from the void of Chaos, Erebus represents the dark mist that fills the underworld and the hidden regions of the cosmos before creation and light fully formed.

In mythological tradition, Erebus is often associated with the shadows of the Underworld and the deep darkness that exists beneath the earth. His presence symbolizes the absence of light and the mysterious forces that predate the ordered world. From this union with Nyx, various personified forces and deities are said to emerge, including beings connected to night, sleep, death, and cosmic balance.

Erebus is sometimes described as the father of Aether, the bright upper air, and Hemera, who brings daylight and disperses the darkness of night and mist each morning. This symbolic contrast between Erebus and Aether, and between Nyx and Hemera, reflects the ancient Greek understanding of the cyclical relationship between darkness and light.

In later interpretations, the name Erebus is also used poetically as a synonym for the Underworld or deep shadowed regions, reinforcing his identity as a foundational force of primordial darkness in Greek cosmology.
