She turned around and looked with pride. During her morning workout, she had decided to rearrange the bedroom. She wanted to let more space into it.

The shoe shelves had been moved to the hallway, leaving a generous gap between the wardrobe and the vanity table. She stepped back, tilted her head, narrowed her eyes, and started imagining all the possibilities for that empty corner. Tapping her finger against her lips, she shifted her weight from one foot to the other.

“Oh! I’ll move the vanity table! I’ll finally stop bumping into the radiator every time I sit down,” she thought.

The whole serious undertaking took far less time and effort than she had expected. Within a few minutes, she had moved everything around, barely knocking anything onto the floor.

Barely.

She heard the unmistakable clink and squeezed her eyes shut, freezing in place. She knew exactly what had fallen.

Her new earrings. The ones from him.

Beautiful. An organic pattern in shades of white and gray. The edges covered with an uneven layer of gold. A square split in half and joined together with golden rings.

They had been wandering through the city, discovering little narrow streets. On one of them, they had passed a tiny boutique, its display window sparkling with beautiful handmade jewelry.

“Oh! Look at these beautiful things!” she said, pulling him toward the window.

“Yeah. They really are. I like things like this,” he replied, standing beside her and admiring the little colorful treasures.

“So do I. Every piece is a little different. Oh! Look at those square earrings! See? The square isn’t cut perfectly in half. It’s slightly off. Someone made all of this with their own hands. And that pattern… it’s like a rare stone. They’re gorgeous!”

“Come on. If you like them that much, you can’t just leave them here.”

“Honey, they’re not cheap. I can buy cheaper ones that look similar online.”

“Are you kidding? You described an ordinary piece of jewelry in such a way that it instantly became extraordinary. And the way you noticed someone’s heart and effort in that little work of art… An artist deserves appreciation, and you certainly deserve something special, my beautiful girl.”

“You’re incredible…” she said, smiling at him warmly. “But I have no intention of arguing with such logical arguments. I would very, very, very happily let you buy me those earrings.”

She opened her eyes and looked toward the source of the noise.

“Uffff…” she sighed out loud.

The earrings were perfectly fine. She picked them up and held them against the light, gently moving them in her hand. They shimmered beautifully. She noticed a tiny air bubble trapped inside the resin and smiled.

“Perfectly imperfect.”

The moment he came home, his wife threw her arms around his neck.

“I’m so happy you’re here!”

“It’s nice to be welcomed like this,” he said, hugging her tightly and kissing her neck. “Oh, new earrings.”

“Yes. I thought they had broken, but luckily they’re fine. They fell when I was moving the vanity table, and the sound was so loud that I was sure they had shattered into dust.”

“Wait. You did what with the vanity table?”

“Oh, nothing much. I moved it a little toward the middle of the wall. When I was exercising this morning, I thought…”

And she began giving him a very detailed report that absolutely nobody had asked for.

He listened with a smile and quiet affection.

He adored his Queen of Chaos.

It was truly beyond him how someone could be so chaotic and so organized at the same time. There was always a method hidden inside her madness. Her actions always looked confusing, completely out of order, yet the final result was always wow.

This time was no different.

The bedroom had gained light and space.

And somehow, everything sparkled and smelled wonderful too.

How could anyone not love such a magnificent force of nature?

That evening, they lay in bed, each absorbed in their own little world. He was scrolling through the news while she was sketching something on her iPad. A crime series was playing quietly in the background, both of them only half watching.

Every now and then, she would stroke his chest, and he would hum softly.

It was comfortable.

Fresh sheets, soft dim light, the scent of essential oils in the air.

Without even trying, his wife created spaces where people simply wanted to be.

“Everything really looks amazing. But you know… I feel guilty when you do all of this by yourself. Like I’m taking advantage of you.”

“Hey,” she answered, giving him a playful look, “I don’t interfere with your hobbies, so let me enjoy mine.”

“Fair enough. Then it’s time to turn off the TV and help my hardworking wife relax.”

“Now that sounds like a perfect plan,” she replied, putting the remote aside.

The television went dark, leaving only the warm red glow of the bedside lamp.

She lay on her back while he rested beside her, propped up on one arm.

His hand began to caress her thigh.

She felt goosebumps rise on her skin instantly.

He felt them beneath his fingertips.

Leaning down, he kissed her neck, and the shivers grew stronger.

He knew.

He knew exactly where and how to touch her.

His hand wandered higher along her thigh.

He found the edge of her satin nightdress.

He loved that kind of fabric.

It felt as though the material flowed over her skin as he slowly slid it higher and higher.

His fingers brushed gently across her hip.

Her skin was warm.

Against her neck, he could feel her heartbeat beginning to quicken.

She felt the touch of his cool fingertips.

They glided softly over her body, sometimes drawing small circles.

She could feel her blood racing faster.

His hand slipped between her thighs.

She was burning with desire.

Her breathing became quicker.

His middle finger slowly slid inside her.

It felt wonderful.

She was warm.

Soft.

Longing for him.

He moved his finger gently, back and forth.

Slowly.

Back and forth.

She gently pushed him away and whispered,

“I want to kiss you and make love to you. You have no idea how much I want you.”

“I do…” he murmured, slowly withdrawing his hand and lying back.
