Any hope for me to go the skilled worker route?

I’m from the US. I nearly came to the Uk 3 years ago on a student visa but things fell through last minute. I have a masters degree in public policy and 3 years of experience in that field. My SO is from the uk and I want to be close to her. I know the home office is working to curb migration so things have tightened a bit since 3 years ago but I was wondering if there’s any hope for me.
