The scene where Phil watches the commercial in the movie always strikes me as a weird one. As Phil’s reaction really threw me off for various reasons. The scene was painted as something where Phil has finally discovered who Clark is and is stunned by it. However, I have discovered a very VERY small detail that changes a lot about how we should view that scene.

***I believe and have evidence that Clark filmed this commercial in the backrooms version of the store. And Phil started panicking when he noticed this.***

In the commercial, it’s very subtle. But Clark waves his hand and looks to the back of the furniture store while talking, where shortly after a light turns off behind him. Which mirrors how the commercial Bobby films starts with Clark turning a lamp on. I still can’t tell if it is a lamp, or one of the overhead lights. If it is an overhead light, this could still be supported as the last scene shows the overhead lights flickering consistently, unlike in the first commercial. My pictures don’t do it justice, but something that you can clearly see is an obvious choice to try to direct our attention towards with Clark’s movements.

If this is true, I’m still in the works of theorizing why he did this. The simple answer is he is going crazy and maybe wants to lure people to the store, to feed his still life. But there also might be some deeper things going on with him and his relationship with async going sour (which I believe the mural is hinting at but still working on that.)

Please note, the ARG commercial does not have this, but is also different dialogue. And please note that I’m sorry if this has already been found and talked about. I haven’t seen anything on this yet though.

Let me know what you think.

I found something insane that nobody is talking about. And I think it changes an entire scene in the film. (Please read)
