Ecobee or S40 for Lennox heat pump + furnace?

Getting a EL18KSLV heat pump and EL297 furnace this month. The installer said they usually use Ecobee but in my knowledge form searching this sub and the HVAC one, the ecobee is not a communicating thermostat and can limit functionality versus the S40? I feel like that can also be Lennox defending a proprietary system but not sure. Anyone here running a Lennox heatpump and furnace with an ecobee notice any issues?
