Common Sense Solution for Smelly Furniture?

Question/Poll

I bought a “cheap” foam chair online, one of those compressed, vacuum-sealed things. It was the only thing I could stuff down the narrow hallway and through the narrow door frame!

A week later, it still has that toxic, chemically stink. the website alleges that it is Oeko Tex Standard 100 certified, but it came with no label or code.

When I asked for the code, Wayfair (unprompted) simply offered me a full refund instead.

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s sensible to keep the chair. It‘s in my small bedroom and changes the odor of the room. I’ve noticed I get a scratchy throat sitting in it and being in the room, but that could also be the power of suggestion.

I like the chair a lot, but I don’t want to compromise my health. I’m trying to figure out whether this toxic-smelling odor is actually harmful!

any advice?
