How do I become branch secretary or any such positions?

Heyy..1st here student here

Since joining vssut last year ..i tried my best to join any clubs..I appeared for E-cell(which was my most fav),pixels,veer-racers..i didn't get into anyy..since I don't have a great foundation and senior connections,will I still be able to become and hold a position in my branch society..I just want to hone my skills in leadership and communication skills..i believe I am already great in communication..don't know why E-cell didn't select me...So the seniors here please give me some tips...
