Should I discuss domestic policy with locals?

Phuket/Krabi/South

Hi! I'm kind of a person highly involved in the global political situation. It was always interesting to me. So after arriving in Thailand I've read some things about the history of this country and domestic politics and sometimes I'm very curious to discuss it with locals. But should I? I know the local laws are super strict and it's highly unlikely I will get an honest answer from a local person and I can put them in an unpleasant situation at the same time. What do you think about this? Is discussing domestic politics in Thailand considered bad manners?
