My (25f) ex (21f) broke up with me less than a week ago.
Edit to add:we were together for 9 months by the time she ended things
My ex and I broke up less than a week ago. Before we broke up, she had already mentioned that she missed being single and felt like she needed time to herself. Eventually she told me she doesn’t love me romantically anymore, although she says she still loves and cares about me as a friend.
The problem is that things haven’t really changed in a lot of ways. She’s still staying with me, sleeping in my bed, kissing me, calling me “baby,” and we’ve still been physically intimate. Sometimes afterward she’ll say it was a mistake or that it didn’t mean anything.
I’m still very much in love with her, and because she’s still here and we’re still doing all of these things, I haven’t really had a chance to process the breakup.
Recently, while talking about needing time for herself, she said that if someone asked her out, she might start another relationship. Since it’s been less than a week and she’s still staying with me, I asked if she could please have some respect for me and my feelings and not start another relationship while she’s still here.
I wasn’t trying to control who she dates or say she needs my permission. I understand we’re broken up and she’s free to make her own choices. I was asking for consideration because she’s still living with me and I’m still deeply in love with her.
Her response was, “You don’t get to decide who I date and when I get to date anymore.”
That really hurt because I wasn’t trying to control her. I was trying to express how painful it would be to have her still sleeping in my bed, kissing me, calling me “baby,” and leaning on me emotionally while potentially starting something with someone else.
Eventually I snapped and told her that I’m exhausted from feeling used and treated like a convenient source of comfort and affection while being reminded that we’re not together whenever I need reassurance or consideration.
There’s been a lot of issues in our relationship due to lack of proper communication and lack of boundaries made. I’ve always done everything for her, made her food, got her drinks, even so much as put her shoes on her and helped her getting out of the shower. Even this morning she wanted us to shower together which is just too much. I can’t take anymore. It’s overwhelming. I guess I just need to vent to third parties?
Update: well stuff just hit the fan. Not even a full week later and she has a new girlfriend. Wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not.
