Applying for phd - scared that it'll be a wrong choice and a LOT of imposter syndrome

Seeking advice-personal

Hi guys im a master's graduate from india. My plan 6 months ago was to apply for phd abroad however my dad didnt support me at all and actively discouraged me and i let myself get affected by that fast forward now i feel like phd might be my only option if i wanna have any career whatsoever. Ive done Bsc MSc biotechnology and its extremely hard to find jobs here. At least ones that pay you enough so your parents dont have to pay your rent

I really want some advice from other phd scholars from india. Im very confused. I dont have GATE or CSIR NET cleared which is A HUGE disadvantage. From past 6 months ive been studying for government exams instead of anything related to my own subject 🙃 (banking exams). So now from last 1 week ive been applying to research project positions at universities like BITS. A friend of mine is doing his phd from there and has told me they accept project JRF without NET and GATE and then will covert you to a PhD position. Ive applied to 4 projects so far. Im beyond worried... what if i dont get selected? What if i do? What if i hate doing phd? What if im too dumb to even get selected ? What if i get selected and im too dumb to finish my phd? should i stick to government exam prep?

Im really lost idk what im doing...can anyone please guide me a little.
