Cried at Work Today
Hey guys. I am an 18 year old. I am very new to the work force. I worked at Target for a few weeks. I am still working there now. I like my job a lot. I am a cashier at target.
I volunteered to do drive up recently, because I thought drive up was a little bit better than going on a checklane. I like doing both drive up and cashiering, it’s just sometimes doing check lane gets a bit boring when you have no guests to ring up at the moment.
I had to learn drive up as I did drive up on my first day because I didn’t get proper training.
Lately I have volunteered to do drive up. Our drive up seems like it’s always backed up.
I like doing drive up, but it gets frustrating when there is supposed to be 4 or 5 of us staging and delivering, but only 2 of us (me included), is doing majority of the orders by staging AND delivering 16+ bag orders. The others just mostly stand there on their phones, not even wanting to do a 1 bag order.
Today I had some complications with a guests order at drive up. They were missing an item. I wasn’t the one who staged their order, but I went ahead and delivered the guest’s order just to not have drive up backed up again.
I talked to the other drive up employees about the guests missing order, and they scolded and made annoyed faces and tones when I asked them what was up with the guest’s missing item.
I was just trying to understand what happened. But after that, I started crying a little.
Today was my 5th day at drive up. I wasn’t even supposed to be in drive up today. I told my team lead I could do drive up, because it’s an easy job in general for me, despite being in the blazing heat and sweating and walking back and forth a lot. Our drive up is always backed up, so I volunteer to help out, because I kind of enjoy the job.
I still like doing drive up. I want to know how to not let these situations get to me and still continue to stay motivated to do work after instances like this. I don’t want to make crying and going to the bathroom a habit.
Any advice?
