I used to be into pokemon as a kid, in my school Pokemon and all other tcg’s were banned(I guess a lot of kids got too upset about losing their cards) so I never learned how to actually play the game, but I loved the show, the video games, and the cards I deemed as cute.

I got back into pokemon since I realized I have adult money now and I can build a collection, it’s a fun hobby for my husband and I, and some of our friends and family have gotten into it too, we all have a group chat and FaceTime eachother when we open packs. I follow most of the Pokemon subs and joined the discords for drops, pulls etc., and I have to say everyone is so blatantly horrible to eachother both in person and online.

Everyone’s upset because it’s hard to get their hands on cards, which I understand why it’s upsetting, but why get ridiculously angry at the people that are going out of their way to get them? You have no idea why that person is buying it nor should you care since it’s not your money. I get irritated when my favorite snack is sold out but I’m not going to have a nervous breakdown over it just because someone got to it before me. Scalper is so overused it has no meaning at this point. Anyone that’s not the person complaining that wants to buy pokemon is a scalper.

I get that it’s upsetting not being able to find it but I remember having to wait in lines for meet and greets with celebs/influencers, new phones, Black Friday sales, etc. Even if I can’t get anything, having to look for pokemon is part of the fun. Being able to actually get it is even better.

Theres even people with seniority complexes thinking if you haven’t been a fan since 1999 you don’t deserve to buy Pokemon cards.

The only people who I could understand being actually upset at are the people who are using bots online or glitching vending machines. That’s just cheating your way into getting stuff. Anything else is just insane and taking glittery cardboard way too seriously.

Not to mention the fact that pokemon literally has the system set up this way. Underprinting, randomly dropping etc. Who’s benefiting the most from collectors, players, kids, adults, scalpers? The multi billion dollar corporation who I don’t see anyone saying anything about. Ripping the seals, taking out the vending machines, taking etbs out of vending machines, none of that is gonna fix the fact that they’re simply choosing not to print enough to fulfill demand, and honestly, it is a smart business move. Scalpers are just people who see an opportunity to take advantage of what pokemon already set up.

This post is way too long but to make a long story short, everyone just needs to mind their own business and let other people be happy.
