Are modern hot hatches just this generations 6 cylinder sedans?
If you go back 15+ years most people who wanted a more entry level performance sedan were looking at the local 6 cylinder “sports” options.
These usually had around 200kw of power generally weighed 1.5-1.7 tons.
Now that class of car and demographic looking for the more performance options have moved to hot hatches or 4 cylinder “performance sedans” like the i30n sedan.
Most of them have around 200kw of power and weigh maybe 1.5 - 1.6 tons.
Back in the day the 6 cylinder option for sedans were generally viewed as lackluster, but on paper these modern 4 cylinder turbo models seem to have very similar performance, only with a fair amount of added complexity.
