Light vs medium roll in PvE

I’ve seen a lot of differing opinions, and would like as close to a definitive answer as possible. Is the distance and quicker recovery (I think this is a part of light rolling) gained from using light roll worth it on most bosses, or only a select few? Does the extra distance end in less hits, meaning the heavier armor with medium rolls is essentially worse? I like to settle on one build/play style and stick with it, so I’d like to determine which one I should get used to and use. Thanks in advance
