Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I made my first post, and it has been long enough that things have settled down a bit to where I feel comfortable talking about what happened. After reading everyone’s replies, I stayed hell-bent on not going. You all made me feel like I was valid in being scared, and now I know for certain that I absolutely was. It was an insane thing to even consider.
Anyway, I refused his offer and told him that if he wanted to go and kill himself, he could very well do it, but I wasn’t jumping off that bridge with him. He seemed disappointed, and we drifted apart a bit over the following weeks. At some point, though, he approached me to show me that he had been corresponding with an expert after our talk because it had made him reconsider, and he was going to do it the right way. I was, of course, elated. I believed him because he even showed me the conversations, and I honestly had no reason to think he was lying. I just thought he’d finally come to his senses. To be honest, I was way too distracted by the fact that my boyfriend wouldn’t die to think about anything else.
He told me he would start small, and so he did. He’d schedule his spelunking expeditions which, as many of you have commented, is the actual name for it and just show me where he was going or share his location. I would wait for him and do something else. It worked for a while. He would take all his gear and, by all means, seemed to be taking all the right precautions. At least, they seemed like that to me. Of course, I’m not an expert, so what do I know? He’d be gone for a few hours maybe once or twice a week, and he’d come back unscathed and with a mountain of energy. He looked so happy, so I was happy for him. For his birthday, I even bought him some gear to show that I supported him, and I would pack his bag before he’d go.
After a while, though, the trips became more frequent. He’d be gone multiple times throughout the week and stay longer. When I asked, he’d say it was because the training was getting more intensive as he prepared for "the big one," and that he was going into harder caves. I didn’t really pay that much mind to it; again, it made him happy, and I figured it would all go back to normal once he fulfilled his goal.
A few months passed like that, and I was growing wary. I noticed that he’d become more lenient with safety. I had stopped packing for him once his trips became more frequent, so I couldn’t see inside his bag every time. But one day, he came back pretty roughed up with bruises all over and some scratches here and there, mostly on his back. I decided to check his bag, and sure enough, most of the gear wasn’t there. I confronted him about it, and he told me that I didn’t know what I was talking about and that some of the gear wasn’t necessary anymore. I was still very worried, but I figured he was right since he’d already gone to all of these complex cave systems and was fairly experienced at that point.
I wouldn’t have worried more if it wasn’t for the fact that his behavior started to change as well. He began to spend more time in the caves than with me, and he even forgot about our anniversary. I thought it was starting to take a toll on him and confronted him again, but he brushed me off, and it only brought us farther apart. Feeling so neglected, combined with my worry for him, started to get to me. I finally decided that I would text this mentor of his to see if maybe he’d been the one advising him to go to these lengths, and to see if he could persuade him to tone it down a notch.
So one day, while my boyfriend was sleeping, I grabbed his phone to text the guy. But when I opened the chat, the first thing I saw was a big old cock(my boyfriend’s cock)staring me right in the face. I began reading the texts, and they were about everything else besides spelunking.
Turns out, his "mentor" wasn’t the old man that he had shown me before, but a 20-year-old girl. All of the times that he’d gone caving had just been excuses to meet her. I hadn’t realized it because he had actually gone to the lengths of going to the actual locations and doing his business there so his location tracking wouldn’t be off. He had even chosen caving specifically because he knew how against it I was, to the point where I'd never want to go with him, meaning he could basically just do whatever he wanted.
Of course, I was heartbroken, and needless to say, I broke up with the bastard. But still, i think this just goes to show the lengths men will take to cheat on you.
