God first, then your family??

I have been a Catholic all my life. I’m a senior and a few yrs ago started digging into the Bible, studying it, etc.
I have difficulty understanding why God should be more important than your family.
Second to my family, absolutely yes. But more important?
I realize that when you put God first, everything else falls into place. You will be a better spouse, parent, a better person.
What’s your view on this?
