Electrical engineering students: how much do you spend on materials?

Discussion

This question might be a bit all over the place… sorry for any mistake English isn’t my first language. I’m an immigrant. And I’m very poor. And very lost! I’ve recently moved to the U.S as a high school student (a last year one) and I’m still learning about how everything works in the country 😅. I am interested in being an electrical engineer because I want to take advantage of the fact that I am studying in such a big country full of opportunities compared to where I used to live, where it was practically ruins. I basically know nothing about ee, but I am willing to tackle that, and adapt.

Forgive me if this sounds like I know nothing, but I have heard students have to buy specialized kits or lab stuff for each class, and it worries me that these materials together could end up being very costly, when I am already struggling, so I would like to know how much you spend on materials, even if it’s different in each area. Do you as a student consider the total cost of the materials to be very expensive? How often do you have to buy materials/kits?
