I’m not using real names but we’ll call my insecure friend Emma and my other friend I’m using in this story Rachel
To add context Emma is very insecure about her self and so I am I but where we differ is that she allows herself to become so self centered. For example if Rachel and I wanted to go hang out Emma would be upset she wasn’t invited because she’s not thinking about if Rachel and I wanted to have alone time, all she’s thinking about is that she wasn’t invited or told no when she tried to invite herself. Emma’s a cool person to hang out with but sometimes it gets tiring have to hide the fact Rachel and I are going to hang out because she will get upset that we tell her no when she tries to “tag along”. Also to point out me and Rachel hang out with Emma a lot but me and Rachel do enjoy hanging out with just us. Another thing to add is Rachel likes to enjoy alone time with each of her friends separately sometimes and sometimes she has alone time with Emma just like me. Basically bottom line is her insecurity makes her very self centered at times and I occasionally talk to people about it because I want to know if I’m just being an asshole or justified in my feelings. I know I should talk to her directly about it but she can’t take constructive criticism at ALL. She will go out of her way to ask for constructive criticism but only every takes offense to it so I feel like if I try to give her constructive criticism the only think that will happen is Emma getting mad at me. Am I the asshole?
