How to start birdwatching?

Might be a dumb question…I remember as a little boy me and my grandma would sit on her porch and watch birds on her bird feeder. I want to do something like that again and get more peace in my life. I’m from a pretty rural area is there certain spots to go? And also I would like to keep track of birds any apps you recommend? And any overall tips appreciated
