Visa for Minor

Visa, Immigration & Bureaucracy

Has anyone else had a nightmare experience with Brazil visa applications for minors?

I’m applying for a Brazil visa for my son and I’m honestly at a loss.

Every time I address one issue, they come back with a completely different reason for putting the application on hold.

First, they said there was a problem with his passport photo because it had a “shadow”. We took a brightened the photo and resubmitted it.

Then they said there was an issue because my surname is different from the surname on my son’s birth certificate. Fine. I provided our marriage certificate.

After that, they said his passport photo wasn’t acceptable because his hair was on his forehead. He has bangs, but okay, we took another photo and submitted it.

Now they’re saying they need a birth certificate showing both parents’ names.

Here’s the problem: the birth certificate I submitted is his official government-issued birth certificate, and it only lists me. There is no version that exists with both parents’ names. They’re essentially asking me to provide a document that does not exist.

What is frustrating is that none of these issues were raised at the same time. Each time I satisfy one request, a new issue suddenly appears. It feels like the requirements are changing as the application is being reviewed rather than all concerns being identified up front.

We have provided every document requested and have followed the instructions exactly as they are written on the website. At this point, I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this level of scrutiny or if there’s something unusual about our application.

Has anyone had a child whose birth certificate listed only one parent? If so, what did Brazil’s eVisa processor ultimately accept? Did you have to provide additional documentation, and if so, what was it?

I’m trying to figure out whether this is normal or if we’re just stuck in an endless cycle of new document requests.
