Hi everyone,
I just finished producing a deep-dive documentary about the absolute madness that was the development of Resident Evil 4. Before Shinji Mikami delivered the masterpiece we all know and love in 2005, the project went through a brutal 6-year development hell that almost completely ruined the franchise and forced massive internal reboots at Capcom.
In this video, I explore the **4 completely different canceled versions** of the game, including:
**The Stylish Version:** How a failed RE4 prototype accidentally gave birth to Devil May Cry.
**The Fog Version / Castle:** The spooky, supernatural build featuring the "long-coated Leon."
**The Hook Man Version:** The iconic, terrifying beta that pushed the GameCube to its absolute limits before being scrapped.
**The System Transition:** The console wars, the infamous "Capcom Five" deal, and the historic Nintendo betrayal.
I really wanted to treat this as a proper gaming autopsy, looking at it through a technical and historical lens rather than just doing a generic trivia list.
(Note: The video audio is in Spanish, but I have personally worked on full, accurate English subtitles so everyone can follow the documentary perfectly!) 🌐✍️
If you love gaming history, retro survival horror lore, or just want to see how one of the most influential games of all time was almost never made, grab some snacks and check it out! 🍿📼

Would love to hear your thoughts! Which of the canceled versions do you think had the most potential if they actually finished it?
