Dreaming in different body for a year

For an entire year, every night I dreamed I was a man. I'm a woman in real life. I would go on missions every night. It seemed like I was in some branch of the military. Sometimes I was alone, sometimes with others who were also part of the missions. I would go on planes, on land, on water, anywhere. I can remember basically every dream after 4 years. You can imagine what I was doing in these dreams, given that I was in some form of the military. It felt so real. I have all 5 senses in my dreams. I have an internal monologue, and sometimes it doesn't feel like me. I wake up in a sweat sometimes, confused where I am and what body I'm in. Then I look at my arms and see my tattoos like oh okay, it's me. Smth life altering could happen in my dreams, and I'd think to myself, this is just a dream, my real life is not affected by this, this isn't real. Then I wake up. Does anyone else have vivid dreams like this? Or know why it happens?
