How does GEMSAS calculate GPA for CONCURRENT postgraduate degrees?
Hey everyone,
I’m trying to map out an accelerated study plan to boost my GPA, but I’ve hit a weird edge case regarding concurrent study, and FTE limits.
My plan is to complete 2.5 FTE across two different postgraduate qualifications at the exact same time, within a single calendar year:
Degree 1: Accelerated Master's by Coursework. Fully online, 1.5 FTE, completed across T2, T3, and T1.
Degree 2: Graduate Diploma. Offline, 1.0 FTE, done concurrently in the exact same year.
My target universities are UWA, ANU and Macquarie. Possibly UQ as well.
UWA and ANU take the most recent 3.0 FTE of valid study (which includes both Masters and Grad Dips). Will GEMSAS combine the 1.5 FTE Master's + 1.0 FTE Grad Dip into a single 2.5 FTE block, and then pull the remaining 0.5 FTE from my undergrad?
Since all 2.5 FTE will be completed simultaneously, how does GEMSAS sort these specific subjects into Final, Final-1, and Final-2 years for ANU's weighted GPA?
Will GEMSAS flag or reject a 2.5 FTE load completed in a single 12-month period as administratively invalid for GPA purposes?
Any insights, or advice on what GEMSAS has said about concurrent subjects, would be hugely appreciated!
