Why is most smart home gym gear built like a massive sci-fi refrigerator?

Seriously. I want to upgrade my workout routine, but every single at home device I look at requires me to bolt a massive, ugly sheet of glass to my wall or clear out half my living room for a giant console. I live in a normal house, not a futuristic loft. Are there any premium options that offer high digital resistance but can just tuck away into a closet or sit subtly in a corner? I want the tech and the heavy data tracking, but I don't want my house to look like a commercial gym showroom.
