How to Add a Payment Link to Your Invoices (and Get Paid Faster)
If you're still sending invoices with bank details and hoping customers remember to pay, you're making it harder than it needs to be.
Adding a payment link to your invoices lets customers pay in just a few clicks - no manual bank transfers, no chasing payments, and no confusion.
What is a payment link on an invoice?
A payment link is a URL embedded in your invoice or invoice email that takes the customer directly to a payment page. Pinch attaches a "Pay Now" link to your invoices, then processes the payment, updates the invoice status in your accounting software, and reconciles it with your bank statement - automatically.
Research shows 69% of customers prefer automated payment systems for their speed and convenience. A payment link is the lowest-friction version of that.
Why add a payment link?
✅ Faster payments
✅ Better customer experience
✅ Reduced admin and reconciliation work
✅ Accept cards and direct debit payments
✅ Keep payments connected to your accounting software
Xero
- Xero makes this the most straightforward of the three. When you register with Pinch, you'll be prompted to connect your Xero account. Connecting early means Pinch can sync your customers and invoices straight away.
- Once connected, a "Pay Now" button is added to invoices, allowing customers to pay via direct debit or credit card. Auto-payments can also be configured so invoices are collected automatically on the due date.
- When a customer pays via Pinch, the payment is matched to the correct invoice in Xero without any manual intervention, eliminating the bank reconciliation step for Pinch-processed payments.
QuickBooks Online
- QuickBooks works slightly differently. QuickBooks does not allow third-party providers to embed payment buttons directly into invoices. However, you can add a secure Pinch payment link to your QuickBooks invoice emails. Your unique "Pay Now" URL is available in your Pinch account under Account Settings > Getting Paid tab.
- To add it to your invoice email template: in QuickBooks, click the Cog icon, go to Account and Settings, select Sales, scroll to Messages and click Edit, then paste your Pay Now link into the Email Message field. Every invoice email sent through QuickBooks will then include a secure link to the Pinch payment page.
- You can also enable the "Invoice Issued" feature in your Pinch settings, which automatically sends payment notifications for any approved but unpaid invoices.
MYOB
For MYOB, Pinch gives you two options: a payment link on the invoice itself, or the Invoice Issued notification.
- To add a link directly to your MYOB invoice template, paste your Pinch MYOB Pay Now link into the Invoice Message Box under Email Defaults. You can find your unique link in Pinch Account Settings under Get Paid > MYOB Pay Now Link.
- Alternatively, the Invoice Issued feature lets you send payment notifications simply by marking the invoice as approved in MYOB — useful for sending invoices in bulk or automating them when they flow in from a third-party system.
- Unlike the built-in MYOB invoice link, Pinch gives customers the option to store their payment details, so you get paid automatically next time without any follow-up.
What happens after a customer pays
Whichever platform you're on, the result is the same. Pinch marks the invoice as paid and auto-matches the transaction with your bank feed in real time. If a payment fails, it's re-attempted automatically at no extra charge.
And if a customer has multiple outstanding invoices, Pinch's batch payment feature lets them see all open invoices at a glance and pay the total in one transaction, with Pinch reconciling each one automatically.
