6 months retatrutide update: changed my life

NSFW

31m, 162lbs, around 12% BF currently. Started closer to 15-16%ish

Thought I’d give a proper long term update because most posts (including one I posted myself) are either honeymoon phase hype or people only talking about scale weight.

The main reason I started Reta wasn’t even to get shredded. It was to finally deal with food noise after struggling with it basically my entire life. I was an ex-fat kid / young adult and even when I got leaner and more disciplined over the years, there was always this constant background obsession with food. Hunger, cravings, dopamine chasing, thinking about the next meal constantly etc. It never really left.

Dose wise, I’ve actually stayed very conservative compared to most people here.

Started at 1mg and titrated to 2mg by around month 2. I attempted 4mg at one stage thinking more = better, but honestly it absolutely nuked me. Nausea, lethargy, waking up exhausted, evening crashes. Way too much for me personally. Dropped back to 2mg and stayed there ever since.

What’s interesting is I almost feel like the effects got stronger over the last couple of months, even on the same dose. Not stronger in an appetite suppression “food disgust” way, but stronger in terms of appetite regulation and behavioural change. Food just stopped occupying so much mental bandwidth.

I can stay lean effortlessly now. That’s the biggest difference. Before, staying lean always felt like I was fighting biology. It kinda feels second nature now.

Current goal is probably to push into sub 10% territory and see how I feel there without increasing dose further. I genuinely don’t think I need more than 2mg.

Training has been a bit mixed. Strength has mostly held up well, but endurance during sessions definitely took a hit at times, especially when I experimented with higher dosing. adding electrolytes consistently has helped a bit.

One thing I don’t see discussed enough is the effect on reward/interest pathways outside of food.

For me:

Alcohol impulsiveness = massively reduced. Not eliminated entirely, but dialled way down.
Random compulsive eating = basically gone.
But I’ve also noticed I lose interest in things quicker now too.

I used to binge watch series for hours, lock into podcasts, movies etc. Now I almost get mentally “done” with them quickly. Hard to explain. Curious if others have experienced that side of GLP/GIP signalling too because I’m still undecided how I feel about it.. I’ve also become really indecisive when putting on a show, listening to music etc.. I have no idea what’s going on here lol.

Libido has actually gone up, surprisingly. Not sure if that’s the drug itself, better sleep, getting leaner, improved insulin sensitivity, or all of the above.

Sleep overall has improved massively. I pass out like a baby now and don’t wake up starving anymore, which honestly feels life changing in itself. But mornings can still be rough. Some days I wake up feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus and it takes a while to get going. Still trying to figure out the best way to manage that side of things.

Overall though, genuinely life changing.

Getting leaner and looking better ended up being more of a byproduct. The real benefit was finally feeling free from the constant food noise that had followed me around since childhood.
