Not sure what to do but figured want to ask for advice

My boyfriend and I have been dating for over a year and he has a 13 year old son. They go off on each other and he’s so frustrated with hims. He sometimes says he hates him. I don’t have any children of my own and I don’t know what to do. He takes away his electronics occasionally. Do other parents this “man I hate this kid” or “I never want to see him again” is that normal?
