Early Music Usage was A1
So, I used to watch Supernatural back when it first came out. I was like 11, freshly hormoned to the teeth, when it first aired and I used to think, if I ever had the chance I’d ride both of the brothers until there was enough static generated from the friction to jumpstart the impala. Anywho, I watched until like season 10 and then kinda fell off and never got back into it. I’m rewatching now and dear God, it really takes me back. And since my special interest is The WB/CW it’s been fun to analyze it from the perspective of knowing that it was one of the first shows put out there under the new name. And it’s very much sticking out to me that the music in Season 2 specifically, is being used so well, omg.
I just watched the Nightshifter episode and at the end, when Renegade starts playing, it just… it just added something so effortless and cool to the scene. It reminded me of how The CW used to be run, back when they were trying to duke it out a bit with, like, MTV and VH1 while maintaining the best elements of shows like Charmed and Buffy. I’m not sure that it holds onto that as it gets older, but it really does remind me of why I used to really love television. This show was on the air with shows like Grey’s Anatomy, which had an amazing soundtrack in its first decade run. It’s such a gem in that way.
