Need advice about my senior dog and my last month with him
Hi sorry for the long post, also my main language isnt english so I apologize if there are errors. I have had my senior dog for 15 years almost 16, he has been with me since I was young so he holds a special place in my heart, he was very active but he didn't really like toys and was really selective with what dogs he wanted to hang around, he had a very distinct personality, I love him a looooooooot.
He never had any mayor problems with his health and we had regular visits to the vet, but he had a general deterioration from his age, around the half of last year he lost his eye sight and didn't have that good of hearing but he would still be active and still had his smell, and in the visits to the vet, he told me he still some years in him.
I took him to the vet after he recently lost his hearing and smell completely for a quality of life evaluation, he started to be unaware of where he was, he stopped being able to recognize family. In general he isn't the same and it's very evident and I was really sad about it.
The vet told me that he is really old so its normal he has lost his eyesight, hearing and smell, and could have dementia, but also that what he heard when he inspected his lungs wasn't good, he told me he has 1.5 months to live and if nothing happens before the 1 month hit , I should consider euthanasia so he can die calmly. I was really sad but I already knew something like this could happen so I expected some part of it.
So I am planning at around the end of this month if he doesn't have an emergency to euthanize him at home with family.
I want to do activities with him before he passes, I have already thought about some and looked for more on the internet but many aren't suited for my dog ( blind, deaf, etc. ), so I wanted to hear some if you have any.
I would also like to hear about how different it is to cremate to burial, its my first pet that dies so I am still am not sure about either. But in general any advice is appreciated, I just want to hear how it is for people with a similar situation.
