Buddy is being asked to renew subscription on free trial

I talked a friend of mine into downloading the ff 14 free trial so we could play together a few weeks ago. We played for a bit, then he took a break for a week or so, and now when he tries to log in its saying ff 14 hasn't been registered with this service account or the subscription has expired. He tried deleting the game and redownloading the free trial again but no luck. This is on PS5. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried google and the only suggestions I saw were that he downloaded the wrong launcher, but that can't be the case because we were playing it just a few weeks ago and he only tried re-downloading it after this happened.
