Foreign Portfolio Investment from India
Hi,
I am an Indian investor. I have been investing in Indian stock market for the last 3 years. Now I want to diversify the investment so as to include global markets. Please let me know what are the best tax efficient strategy for an Indian investor to invest in foreign stock markets.
Here are the steps that I have already taken for investing in foreign markets
-
Started investing in individual US stocks using Vested app. (Started 3 months back)
-
The problem with Vested is we can not invest in other non-US markets. We can invest in ETFs using Vested, There are ETFs which cover Non-US markets ( For example, IXUS ETF)
I am not sure if ETF is a good long term investment for foreign stock exposure considering the limitation of liquidly, estate tax etc.
- If I want to completely diversify my portfolio( stocks and ETFs), what would be best long term investing strategy.
My Long term duration would be 5 to 10 years.
I am planning to invest a total of 1 crores.
Here is my break up.
-
50 lakhs - Indian stock market (Zerodha and Groww)
-
20 lakhs - US stock market ( Vested app)
-
30 lakhs - Non US market ( Exclude India) - Not sure .. Interactive Brokers????
Please let me know what would be the best tax efficient strategy to invest in foreign stock markets.
I am not sure if I need to start using Interactive Brokers app so that I can start investing in Non _US stocks / ETFS.
The limitation is I am an Indian investor. So If want to maximize my foreign investment returns, I will have to consider tax and hedge currency risk.
