Is Honours Math a good Quant Pipeline

Im not really sure if this is the best place to ask, but after scrolling around LinkedIn, I've obviously found a lot of Waterloo CS and SE alumni in quant shops, yet I've hardly seen any Honours Math People there?

I've heard that math is usually good for quant, so im sort of confused.
I am aware that quants from Waterloo tend to be more dev-focused, but it still perplexes me a bit that no one from just math is in quant.

Am I mistaken, and if not, what would you guys feel would be an appropriate first step for an upcoming freshman?
