I wish unemployment took into account the transition week between starting a new job and receiving the first paycheck.
Honestly just the title and this is mainly for me to get this out of my system. I'd been on unemployment while looking for work and thankfully started a new job last Tuesday. I filed a continued claim like usual and told myself to call in the morning because I wasn't sure what would happen now that I've started working. I got off the phone a few minutes ago after finding out that because the hours I worked total more than the amount I was getting ($300), I wouldn't be receiving anything this week. I get how that works but it doesn't make me any less frustrated. My first paycheck isn't coming until next week. To be brutally honest the claim was never enough. I've been resorting to pawning what "valuable" possessions I could to help cover food, gas to get to interviews (I kept having to look farther and farther out for work) and keeping the roof over my head at the cheapest hotel I could find. If there was any week I absolutely needed the claim it was this week. It would've relieved so much stress I have about the transition into the first paycheck. I'm thankful to finally be working but god do I feel blindsided. WHYYYY does unemployment work that way?!
