Gift of the Magi

Thoughts On Episode πŸ‘€

God are these two cute. And I seriously got Gift of the Magi feels (Nawab ki kutaai ho gayi but at least it got put to good use πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ).

This is what I wanted to see. A young couple who are so in love, taking baby steps towards independence, solid ground and transform their relationship into something stronger and deeper than it is.

I think maybe, maybe this time is different because both of them have been through so much and still made their way to each other by their own choice. Both know now that they are each other's destiny. And are more confident and happier than last time when they had taken a small step towards each other.

I'm sure this journey of a young couple through hardships of life must have been explored before on TV. I think the difference is that Heer and Nawab are so loved and adored by people by now, it will be a doubly fulfilling to see them doing this.

Life outside your bubble is hard. You're one catastrophy away from breaking down. You are not always sure of what you're doing. You always have to make choices and sacrifices that may still end up taking you further from where you started.

So yeah, the road to confidence and self-sufficiency is hard. But once you learn how to drive, it's fun. And fulfilling. I hope we get a glimpse of these two doing that.

I honestly teared up a little. I mean it's a fictional show! But it reminded me of me entering my first tiny rented home that I ended up doing a pseudo grah pravesh in, with no one but my partner. It was funny then but makes me feel strangely fond and nostalgic now.

Some really really REALLY adorable things:

- Heer asking 'Ab kya karoge' was hadh ka cute yaar. I swear people don't adore Heer as much because she has never been allowed to be this cute because man!! That entire mini-fight is so heartfelt and heartbreaking and adorable af that I want to keep watching it.

- Saap - seedhi πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

- That Heewab nameplate 😍πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜

- That hug outside their new house. Man, he bent down to hug her. And was still hugging her as she lifted up her head to look at him as he stared at Gulab. I am loving their hugs so much now a days. They are different somehow. Like there's a comfort and familiarity

- Heer fussing over his wounds

OTOH:

- Or kitni entries honi baki hain Tina ki?

- Ye Arjun ke andar ke villain ne ise zyada hot bana diya hai kya? Ayush - I hope you act damn well better this time because Aalisha is sure going to kick ass!

- Tina kis position me aayi hai - why do I feel she's going to be a TA or something where she can make life hell for these two?

- That little rap/skit by Maddy and Jassa was creative and kinda meta - writers/creators ARE aware that they can't let Heewab's love story get boring after wedding. Probably hence the barsaat of issues since 2nd day of marriage. I'm liking it.

Another thing.

I'm so glad this 'hen-pecked' issue has been raised in this show.

I remember in a wedding, I was wearing a long dress that I had to hold with both my hands or else it would been completely destroyed. My partner offered to hold my purse. A cousin of mine, whose husband is as far as from a decent person I can imagine, reacted as if my partner had committed a crime. And to top it up, my mom, instead of calling her out, got f-ing embarrassed. Neither me, nor my partner cared. But it's been a while and that look and implication still stings.

Staying home to take care of your child, taking a step back in your job to support your wife in hers, being an involved partner in household chores - basically doing anything that would otherwise make you an involved, caring partner by normal standards is so proudly labeled 'hen-pecked' in India that it's more funny than sad.

And to make it worse, women do it as much as men, which makes it downright depressing.

This issue was previously raised in YRKKH. But I didn't like how they resolved it.

The good thing that they've raised it in this show is that Nawab Brar (sorry, Sandhu) is the epitome of cool. He has been shown as one of the most desirable guys in this show. That he is caring, sensitive and gentle is a perk and is only known to people who know him closely. To others, he's still the flamboyant, confident guy who is rich, popular and everyone looks up to him.

People who have done this (GULAB - itna neeche girogi to crane bhi kafi nai padegi uthane ke liye, Arjun and Tina), think it's a low blow. For them, an attack on a man's manhood is the one thing that'll always hit where it hurts.

I don't think Nawab cares. He never has. Being head over heels for his girl has never been an issue. And I don't think he's ever paid attention to what society thinks. I just want to see how he responds to all this because that'll be fun.

Baki I loved the episode to bits. After the high octane action yesterday, this one felt like hugging a warm pillow after a long day.

I'm in love with Raza and Jasmeet's newfound cute wali chemistry 😍.............I hope the show stays like this.
