Writing a character that doesn't share a language with the MC and interactions thereof

Hello there! For my novel I'm wiriting a character that, at least for the first part, will not speak the same language of the main character or anyone else for that matter. She will pick some up, but until then I'd like to ask some tips on how to write the ways she's trying to communicate. The main character is fairly perceptive, but not particularly educated.
