Sued for $1000 in TX. What should I expect in court?
I have a trial by judge set for next week. What should I expect?
I was served papers in March for a debt owned by Velocity Investments. It is my debt and I attempted to call them multiple times to settle and they never pick up the phone or returned my calls after leaving voicemails. The only way to pay was to set up a payment plan on their website. I just wanted to call them to settle for less. Since I could never talk to them, I answered the court with a general denial and asked for proof of debt including original contract and statements. I emailed and mailed the law firm the answer as well and never heard a peep from them.
Now as the court date is approaching, I just wanted an idea of what to expect. If the lawyer shows up with all the correct paperwork, will the judge issue an automatic judgement against me or will I still have the option to pay or set up a payment plan? What happens if no one shows up? This is my first time going to court, I’m not sure how it goes. Should I just pay it online and show up to court and say that a payment has already been made?
