Why do gamedevs keep catering to pros instead of casuals?

I've noticed this with games like Valorant and the now dead game called XDefiant.

The former constantly nerfed things that were loved by the community but complained about by pros or kept things that were hated by the community but loved by pros. The latter was designed entirely for esports. It was fast paced, long TTK with annoying mechanics like bunny hopping and slide cancelling which turned the game incredibly sweaty.

While Valorant managed to find success because the core gameplay was still casual friendly, the latter died in less than a year with 90% of its playerbase gone within the first month.

Why cater to the 0.1% instead of the 99.9%?
