Illinois DHS denied my SNAP application for having SNAP in another state, even though I gave proof that my previous state's SNAP was terminated

Question

I just moved from another state to Illinois. I canceled my previous state's SNAP benefits and applied for SNAP in Illinois. I had my interview on June 1, 2026. The due date for submitting proof was June 12.

Immediately after my interview on June 1, I uploaded a PDF of a letter I got from my previous state's DHS notifying me of my closure of SNAP benefits there. According to ABE's website, effective on June 6, my SNAP application was denied on account of still having SNAP benefits in my previous state.

Why would they deny my SNAP application even though I submitted proof of no longer receiving SNAP from my previous state? Why would they deny it before the due date for submitting proof?

I've filed an appeal for them to reconsider this, and I uploaded my documents with proof of income and proof of closure of the previous state's SNAP. Is there anything else I should be doing?
