What's your Destiny story?

Discussion

With the final update tomorrow, I'm getting reminiscent, and I really wanted to share my D2 story and hear other people's.

Firstly, I'm not a veteran. I had a very strict dad who never let me play games as a kid, and only got the freedom to explore my interests when I hit college and got a laptop for schoolwork. I then took the oppurtunity and started playing a bunch of different games, primarily Rainbow 6 Seige at the time. I met some friends at work who enjoyed gaming, and they got me to play some other styles of games like Ark Survival. Then one asked me to try Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 had just launched Shadowkeep. I got to play the Season of Undying, and actually had a bunch of fun. I remember my initial choice of Warlock, who I played for all of 10 minutes before I decided the jump was horrible, and I changed to Hunter. My friend helped me get Leviathans Breath, and as a bow/hand cannon lover at the time it was perfect.

Then, at the end of the season, we had a falling out. Some IRL stuff happened, and that friend and I couldn't stand each other. I stopped playing D2, and returned to my old stomping grounds. Rainbow 6 just didn't do it anymore though, and I couldn't keep interest on a game for long.

Then I heard that D2 was about to undergo a massive content wipe. "Sunsetting" they called it. So I decided to jump back in and grind out all the important bits before they were wiped from the game. In the space of those 3 weeks, I gained something like 15-20 Exotics. This is where I truly fell in love with the game.

Beyond Light dropped, and I got to experience the story of D2 fresh with everyone else. I had tons of fun, but was still playing solo for the most part. Then suddenly Europa changed, and there was an announcement about some players beating a Raid. As I had never played a raid, I was very interested, and started LFGing to try Deep Stone Crypt.

That's where I met X and N, and my current clan. They were truly great people to play with, and they introduced me to so many more nuances about the game and walked me through what I missed. I stayed throughout the 86 runs it took X to get Eyes of Tomorrow. X and N took me through so many dungeons, and I joined them a year later for my first Day 1 raid.

Many fun years followed those days. After Final Shape, both X and N stepped back from D2 a bit, though I stuck it out because I loved the story and wanted to see where it went. I became the resident teacher for our clan, and walked so many players through exotic missions, raids, dungeons, and more.

With the final update nearing, old friends are coming back to play again and catch up, and I'm happy to relive some days of fun, even with the sadness of the era truly ending. I look forward to a final hurrah, and will still continue to play as long as D2 will let me.

What about yall? How heavily did D2 impact your lives? I just really wanted to share my non-veteran experience.

"If we do not meet again, know how proud I am of what you have done." Thank you Destiny, you truly impacted my life. I'll see you all Starside tomorrow.
