Adding a flexibility routine completely changed my QOL at 37 years old
Prior, I’ve always kept a consistent work out routine and my friends and family say I look great just from appearances. But every few months something out of no where would happen and I’d have shoulder and lower back pain. It could have been sneezing walking up a flight of stairs or sleeping in a weird position. Then, days of pain. It would take weeks to feel better. I hated it. The last time it happened I decided to go see a doctor for my shoulder from a tennis injury. They recommended to see a physical therapist. After some tests, the PT gave me a wake up call. I lost so much range of motion in my shoulders and hips over the years. This was the root cause of everything.
I decided to do my research. I completely changed how I viewed training and working out. I started calisthenics and incorporated a flexibility routine. Absolute game changer. After a few weeks I felt lighter and stronger, like walking weightless. The best part. My chronic shoulder and lower back pain disappeared and I felt like I was in my early 20s again. I didn’t realize I was so accustomed to the feeling of chronic pain, and told myself it’s just aging and getting older.
I invested in a good pull up bar. Slowly got to a point where I could hold dead hangs, and then moved to German hangs. I started holding deep squats, and hip flexibility movements. I was skeptical at first, but now it’s something I recommend to all my friends and parents.
