Genghis Khan challenge (Hard) - FM24/FM26

Misc

This challenge requires downloading a database covering at least all of Asia, and specifically Mongolia. lovely thought and made by a real human being.

The Context

Mongolia isn't known for its football. Currently ranked 185th in the FIFA rankings, it struggles to compete with even the weakest teams in Asia. Its leagues range from amateur to semi-professional, operating with extremely limited resources. No one expects Mongolia to shine on the international stage, let alone become a major force in world football.

Likewise, at the beginning of the 13th century, nobody expected Mongolia to build the largest empire in human history. Yet it did. Stretching from Eastern Europe to Korea, fighting campaigns in Hungary and Japan at the same time, the Mongol invasions shocked the world. And it all began with one man: Genghis Khan.

Now back to 2026. I've said Mongolia isn't known for its football. Well, you're about to change that. Recreate the story of Genghis Khan and replicate his achievements as a football manager. Starting in the lowest division in Mongolia, set out to conquer Asia... and perhaps the entire world.

This challenge is divided into two main stages, each with its own objectives and restrictions. A third stage + optional harder settings are available for those seeking the ultimate challenge.

Stage 1: The Unification

Before conquering the world, Genghis Khan first united Mongolia. Before looking outward, you must establish control over your own territory.

Objective

Win the Mongolian Premier League with a club from the lowest division.

Restrictions

  • Begin as Genghis Khan (or another famous Mongolian from the Middle Ages), with 0 diploma and the sunday footballer status.
  • 100% of your players and staff must be either Mongolian nationals or from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China.
  • It is strictly forbidden to become affiliated with a senior club, whether domestic or foreign. (You are the Khan - no one commands you.)
  • Your tactical approach must be based on intense, attacking football.
  • Optional Hard Mode: You may not have more than two players originating from the same region, reflecting the unification of diverse Mongol tribes and territories.

It is highly recommended that you apply for the Mongolian national team as early as possible. You will need it for the next stage.

Stage 2: The Invasion

Follow the path of history and invade the Asian continent. This is no longer about your club - it is about the entire nation.

Objectives

Win the AFC Champions League Elite (club level) and the AFC Asian Cup (national team).

Requirement

You must hold the position of Mongolia national team manager in addition to your club role.

Club Restrictions

  • You may now recruit players and staff from other countries, but only from nations that have been defeated by Mongolia in a competitive match.
  • If Mongolia loses a match against a nation it had previously defeated, you may no longer use players or staff from that country. Any affected staff members must be dismissed immediately. Any affected players must be moved to the reserve squad and/or sold until Mongolia defeats that nation again.
  • Affiliate clubs remain forbidden.
  • Your tactical approach must remain attacking and aggressive.
  • Optional Hard Mode: Change club every 3 years, strictly in Mongolia. (This must become an empire, not a city-state...)

National Team Restrictions

  • None. Managing an international team is restrictive enough already. Do everything in your power to succeed.

Officially, the challenge could end here. But for the truly ambitious, there is one final stage...

Stage 3: The World

Even Genghis Khan had limits. You don't. After coming this far, it would be a shame to stop now, wouldn't it?

Objectives

Win the FIFA World Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and reach 1st place in the FIFA World Rankings

Restrictions

All restrictions from Stage 2 remain in effect. Please take a shower from time to time.

And... that's it !

This challenge was designed to encourage the rebuilding of an entire football nation, particularly through youth development, while allowing your international success to create advantages for your club. It also shines a spotlight on a continent that is often overlooked by Football Manager players (outside of Japan, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia).

If you decide to give it a try, let me know - I would love to follow your journey. Oh, and if you turn this concept into a YouTube video, a written story or something similar, please mention me. I would be so proud, you have no idea.

Have fun, see you on the pitch ! (remotely)
